How to Find Your Perfect Ring Size at Home

Finding the right ring size shouldn't be a guessing game. Whether you're treating yourself or shopping for someone special, getting the fit right the first time saves you the hassle of returns — and ensures your piece feels as good as it looks.

Here are three easy methods you can do right now, no jeweller required.

Method 1: The String or Paper Strip Method

This is the most reliable at-home option.

  • Cut a thin strip of paper or use a piece of string
  • Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you plan to wear the ring on
  • Mark where the paper or string overlaps
  • Measure the length in millimetres
  • Use the chart below to find your size

Method 2: Measure an Existing Ring

Already have a ring that fits perfectly? Use it.

  • Place the ring flat on a ruler
  • Measure the inner diameter in millimetres
  • Match it to the size chart below

Method 3: The Printable Ring Sizer

Many jewellers offer free printable ring sizers online. Simply print at 100% scale (do not scale to fit), cut out the sizer, and follow the instructions.

Quick Reference Size Chart

Inner Diameter (mm) Ring Size (CA/US)
14.9 mm 4
15.7 mm 5
16.5 mm 6
17.3 mm 7
18.2 mm 8
19.0 mm 9
19.8 mm 10

A Few Tips Before You Measure

  • Fingers swell slightly in heat and shrink in cold — measure at room temperature
  • Measure at the end of the day when fingers are at their largest
  • If you're between sizes, size up
  • For wide bands, go up half a size for comfort
