The Art of Stacking: How to Layer Jewelry Like a Pro

There are no rules when it comes to stacking — but there is an art to it. The difference between a curated stack and a cluttered one comes down to a few simple principles that anyone can master.

At Pure Aurum&Co., stacking is one of our favourite ways to wear jewelry. Here's how we do it.

Start with an Anchor Piece

Every great stack begins with one statement piece — your anchor. This is the piece that sets the tone. It might be a bold cuff, a chunky chain, or a ring with a standout stone. Everything else builds around it.

Choose your anchor first. Then layer from there.

Mix Metals Intentionally

Gone are the days of matching metals perfectly. Mixing gold and silver is not only acceptable — it's editorial. The key is intention.

  • Pair warm gold with cool silver for contrast
  • Use one metal as the dominant tone and the other as an accent
  • Keep the finish consistent — all polished, or all matte — for a cohesive look

Play with Proportion

A great stack has variety in scale. Combine:

  • Delicate chains with chunky links
  • Thin stacking rings with one bold band
  • Small studs with a longer drop earring on the same ear

Proportion creates visual interest. Don't be afraid to mix fine and bold.

Layer in Odd Numbers

Three rings. Five bracelets. One necklace layered with two chains. Odd numbers feel more natural and balanced to the eye than even groupings.

Consider Texture

Texture adds depth to a stack without adding bulk. Try combining:

  • Smooth polished pieces with hammered or twisted metals
  • Cable chains with box chains
  • Plain bands with pavé or stone-set rings

The Wrist Stack

For bracelets and cuffs, start at the wrist and build upward. Mix a fitted cuff with a few delicate chains and one beaded or charm bracelet for a relaxed, layered look.

The Ring Stack

Stack rings across multiple fingers for a modern editorial look, or concentrate them on one hand for drama. Mix plain bands with stone-set rings, and don't forget the pinky.

The Neck Stack

Layer necklaces at different lengths — a choker at 14–16 inches, a mid-length pendant at 18 inches, and a longer chain at 22–24 inches. The cascading effect is effortlessly elegant.

At Pure Aurum&Co., every piece in our collection is designed to be worn alone or layered. Mix, match, and make it yours.

Stack boldly. Wear intentionally. Own the look.
